Anaerobic Exercise

Anaerobic exercise is a type of exercise which focuses on building power during short duration activities. It is used by body builders to build muscle mass. Anaerobic exercise is very intense and could create anaerobic metabolism. Athletes and non-endurance sports need this type of exercise since they require high intensity activities.

While aerobic exercise includes lower intensity activities to be performed for long periods of time, anaerobic exercise leads to great performance for those that need up to 2 minutes of activity duration. Some examples of sports and simple activities that makes for a good aerobic exercise are:

  • Dancing
  • Rollerblading
  • Skateboarding
  • Basketball
  • Bicycling
  • Hockey
  • Ice skating
  • Jogging
  • Karate
  • Rowing
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Fast Walking

To sum up, although anaerobic exercise burns fewer calories than when you do aerobic exercise, the individual with the leaner muscle will easily lose weight in the long run. Some good examples of anaerobic exercise include:

  • Rowing
  • Push-ups,
  • Pull-ups,
  • Tug-of-war,
  • Sit-ups
  • Squats
  • Heavy Weight Lifting
