Increasing Muscle Flexibility with Stretching Exercises

If you are into sports, then you would know the importance of stretching. Not only does it increase muscle flexibility, but helps you avoid injury during actual play. Written below are some instructions on how to stretch properly before a workout.

Prior to engaging in sports or going for a run, you need to do proper muscle warm-up. Usually, it takes about five to ten minutes to complete this step. However, this time frame can be longer or shorter, depending on your body type. Note that your stretching routine should be gentle and relaxing. Remember to take long and relaxed breaths with each muscle stretch.

To help reduce injuries due to exercise, relieve tight muscles by lying on your back and pulling your knee to your chest and stay in that position for a five count. This method enhances hamstring flexibility. Alternatively, in a standing position, cross your ankles and bend over to touch your toes. It is all right to bend your knees a little to relieve the pressure. Lastly, breathe out slowly at the end of the stretch. Never do this to the point of discomfort with no bouncing and jerking motions.
